SXSW Diary - Saturday

Saturday was the last official day of SXSW. I had my official SXSW show and my Red Bull Moon tower show in the evening. I was quite anxious about doing the red bull show as it's the biggest stage and thing I've ever played at. With reportedly around 1500 people watching. EEK!

Anyway to loosen up for it we decided to go do the Texan thing and go to a shooting range. After getting lost on the freeway in our Red Bull bus for about an hour we finally arrived. The sound of the gunshots even from outside was deafening. We took silly photos outside and then went in. FUCKING HELL! The place was stuffed to the brim of all kinds of guns, knives and any other form of dangerous weaponry you can pretty much imagine.

There was a really typical American dude behind the counter showing us the guns. when I asked him if anyone was able to buy a gun he replied; 'Hell yeah! this is Texas!' which made me even more nervous. I asked if they kept the details of people buying guns and he said they kept it on a sheet. Yeh, a sheet.

Anyway I'm not going to go too much into the gun shop / range as I found it all quite disturbing as to how blase these people actually were. Whilst we were there we saw two couples on DATES.

Even wearing protective earwear the shots rocked my whole body. The sound is louder than you can possibly ever imagine. It really hits you right in the stomach. It's because the bullet is breaking the sound barrier apparantly.

Everyone was well psyched up about going there before we went but afterwards everone was a bit shaken. was just a really bizarre experience. It's like they wanted to turn us into these gun toting young people. Weird.

Anyway, then we went home, stuffed ourselves as usual, and I went onto my first show at The Rio, which was pretty good and managed to give out loads of CDs. We then went onto the Moon Tower. us and The Cheek boys were all really psyched up to play to the big crowd and just celebrate all the fun we had been having. The boys from The Cheek were all set to invade the stage on my last song and dance along, but 4 songs into my set the song starts slowing down. I turn round to Jason, as that's not normal, and he's calling me over to the DJ booth. I'm thinking, what the fuck?

Basically, Texas police shut down the Red Bull stage! 4 songs into my set! Right before Erykah Badu even turned up! I was soooooo deflated. It ruined all of our great moods.

We didn't want to wallow in shitness so we decided to go home and finish my set there. But as we turn up back to the red bull house the drive is full of random cars. And People. Standing outside OUR HOUSE! We didn't know ANY of them!
Our house was full of randoms. Drinking our beer! Drinking our Tequila! Drinking OUR Red bull! We had to seriously kick some ass and shove them all out which led to some typical chavvy British aggression (not on any of our parts I have to say, if you are reading this, you know who you are) which was very immature and pathetic, but we got over it. Drank more tequila, played on the decks, bitched about the bitches who ruined our vibes and went to bed at around 6am.
